I have a couple of commissions to create a bespoke coat or arms, this is when my true creativity comes to the fore. In creating such a piece, its significantly more of a challenge in creating an existing family name coat or arms.
One of these commissions is for a member of parliament, discretion is a must...so not letting on who it is. As the heritage of this MP is from Scotland. In Scotland they don't have coats of arms as such, they use a crest/badge system where a name from Scotland would only be allowed to wear the crest/badge from the clan they come from. The badge/crest is a ring replicating the ones used to pin the shawls in the clan's tartan. The only difference between a clansman and a chief, is that a clan chief instead of tartan they have 3 eagle feathers behind the badge, the badge usually contains the clan's motto too. I could go on; I don't want to bore you. The other parts of the design, which will be interlinked the Scottish clan badge/crest shall be intertwined with and English style coats of arms. This will have the following, the part of towns coats of arms of their constituency, also the house of parliament portcullis and the symbol of the political party they represent. I shall after it's been presented upload the finished piece.
My other commission is in its infancy, it will be challenging one. As the person's name, which they have adopted is not a conventional name for be get a basis for a bespoke coat of arms, it takes loads of questions, taking in things like, passions, what is the identity of your name now, hobbies, family history like is there a family trade, part of the world they come from and many other questions. Once I have created the proposed design, which after I have the answers to my questions, I shall do one design with one further amendment. This is usually sufficient to get to what will be a significantly unique piece of art, with a personal touch. I shall with both these commissions, will be creating a photo montage of the work from beginning to completed design.
